Responses are needed by 12:00 noon on Thursday, October 25th.

Dates TimesSaturday, 10/27, Sunday, 10/28
and Monday, 10/29

5:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Volunteers are required to assist on all 3 days

Responsibilities
There are 100 volunteer positions available.

Volunteers are needed to help distribute the following items to Detroit Tiger fans throughout the downtown Detroit area:

30,000 Detroit Tiger Buttons

30,000 Restaurant & Nightlife Guides

20,000 Orange and Blue Beads with Detroit Sports Commission Medallion

10,000 DET Sports Bumper Stickers
Your most important role is to serve as a friendly face and welcome people to downtown Detroit.
Answer questions when you can and feel free to point out local eateries, bars and nightspots. Use your own experiences as a guide and point out your favorite to our visitors. You can also use our Restaurant & Nightlife Guide as a reference.

Check-In
Volunteers will check-in at the DMCVB office building (211 W. Fort Street, Detroit, 48226) at 5:00 p.m. on each day. Items will be picked up from the 1st floor of the building. Once you’ve received your items to distribute, you’ll be assigned to a particular location at that time. All locations are in the immediate downtown Detroit area (accessible via People Mover). Most locations are outdoors.

Attire
Volunteers will receive a Detroit Tigers sweatshirt and should wear khaki pants and comfortable shoes. Please dress in layers due to possible inclement weather.

Parking
Volunteers are on their own for parking. We suggest parking away from Comerica Park and taking the People Mover to our building for check-in. Our building is located on the corner of Fort & Washington Blvd. (diagonal from Cobo Center). We are centrally located between the Cobo Center People Mover Stop and the Fort/Cass People Mover Stop.

Policies and Procedures
Please note, as indicated above, volunteers are required to commit to all 3 days (Oct. 27-29, 2012). Due to the cost of the sweatshirts, we are required to obtain a debit/credit card number from each volunteer, in case there are no-shows.

RACER Trust Update

The meeting with RACER Trust was a great opportunity for residents to learn more about the General Motors environmental clean up efforts and ask questions regarding the redevelopment plans.  I was happy to see the level of excitement around this project as well as the regional focus on improving our community. Lansing Township Officials were joined by leaders from the City of Lansing, LEAP, Lansing School Board and City Council.

I am pleased that RACER Trust is committed to ensuring that potential investors understand our culture and will come in as community partners. We are still discussing redevelopment plans for the area and expect to have additional community discussions.
