Diontrae Hayes Selected to Fill Vacant Seat on Lansing Twp. Board of Trustees, After a 4-2 Vote, Hayes Sworn In

LANSING TOWNSHIP - On Tuesday, the Lansing Township Board of Trustees interviewed four candidates to fill the remaining six months of a term on the board. By a 4-2 vote, Diontrae Hayes was selected to fill the vacancy.
"It is such an honor to be selected to fill this position," Hayes, a legislative director in the Michigan Senate, said. "The questions they asked were thought provoking and very relevant. I am humbled by the opportunity I have to serve my friends and neighbors as a Lansing Township Trustee.

Other candidates included a former Trustee, a former Waverly School Board member and a local accountant. Board members were impressed with Hayes' strong grasp of the issues, both on the local level and in the state government; her involvement in the local community; and her fresh perspective on solving problems and working as a team with a common purpose.

"I look forward to getting to know all the board members better over the next couple of weeks and getting to work right away," Hayes said. "We've got a lot of work to do in the next six months."

Hayes, a board member of the American Society for Public Administration and one of Lansing's 2011 Ten Over the Next Ten award winners, will be seeking election to a full term this fall. Keep up with her at www.Twitter.com/DiontraeHayes.

Diontrae Hayes Announces Candidacy for Lansing Township Board of Trustees
Unmatched experience and community involvement to highlight grassroots campaign

LANSING - Today Diontrae Hayes officially announced her campaign for a seat on the Lansing Township Board of Trustees. A resident of the township for several years, Hayes has become deeply involved in the local community and will provide a fresh perspective to township issues.

“Lansing Township has so much to offer,” Hayes said. “There is definitely more we can bring to the table in terms of economic development, placemaking, and leveraging our existing assets to create an even brighter future.”

Hayes is a member of Tabernacle of David Church, where she volunteers in the nursery and children’s ministry. Her commitment to serving others manifests itself through her work with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, The Ronald McDonald House and Haven House.

She is a graduate of Michigan State University and earned a Masters of Public Administration Degree from Central Michigan University. She serves on the boards of the Central Michigan University Public Administration Program and the American Society for Public Administration, as well as Lansing’s Foster Community Center.

“With the strain on local governments continuing across the state, we must be responsible stewards of our limited resources, while finding creative ways to continue making improvements and maintaining essential services,” Hayes said. “I believe my education, experience and commitment to public service will make me a valuable member of the Lansing Township Board of Trustees and I look forward to sharing my vision and ideas with the voters in our community.”
